The projects in the energy sector financed by Fundo Verde fall into two categories: electric generation initiatives. and energy efficiencyIn the first five years, from 2014 to 2018, the main investments were allocated to photovoltaic energy generation projects. In turn, from 2019 to 2022, that is, in the last four years, Fundo Verde’s operations were focused on the energy efficiency sector. Each of the areas has particular advantages and challenges for its implementation at the university.
Electricity generation through photovoltaic systems on the university’s campus campus
Pros: continuous reduction of installation prices; low maintenance required.
Cons: increase in project costs due to the need for public works and works in electricity at the installation sites; long payback time.
Actions for energy efficiency
Pros: despite requiring maintenance, the frequency of maintenance is lowered after the projects, thus enabling indirect savings to the university; some of the actions in question are simpler to perform.
Cons: actions that cause a higher impact will require large investments; projects require some level of periodic maintenance.
Fundo Verde’s actions in the energy sector contribute to the “Essa conta é de todos”, (This bill belongs to everyone) campaign, created by the Rector’s Office and UFRJ’s Administrative Office to reduce electricity costs at the university.
